Why May is special in Norway

May it's pretty special in Norway!

Spring has officially started and temperature are usually rising, the sun is warmer and the days are getting longer.

But May is particular also for two other reasons. Here comes a preview.

Russ partying (most of the time) and going around singing, whistling and doing crazy things just before their exam, that is anyway after the 17th May.


But in particular May is special because of 17.Mai
I have talk about it in a post last here and I posted some pictures
Here I would like to let you know that for me May is also nice because band are going around rehearsing and creating such a cheerful mood for everyone around, here what I have captured yesterday ;-)

Toptour in Italy and Norway

Since Easter we have been doing few toptour trips (both in Italy and in Norway) that I would like to talk about, but due to lack of time I still have to postpone it.

I may just anticipate that we have been in Jotunheim, up to Galdhøpping (2469m), the highest top in Norway. Not really high considering the Alps standards. For the ones familiar with Biellese, it is like a Mucrone (see below) but with glacier around ;-)

And here a picture from one of our trips, this was taken in Italy. The mountain pictured in the background is Monte Mucrone. Lot of snow this year in our mountains ;-)

Signs of Spring

You know that spring is coming when:

- you start spotting lovely flowers like crocus

- when you start smelling someone is having a barbecue and you start spotting used "engangsgrill" in parks and other public places. Norwegians like grilling a lot! Their favorite is probably "pølse med brod", hot dog and bread. There were some interesting statistics, let see if I can find them.

p.s. "Engangsgrill" are one-time ready-to-use grills. The first time I saw them was here in Norway, now I have seen them in Italy too, but here are so popular!

Che spettacolo!

Sta mattina il termometro segnava -10.4! Non male!

Ma lo spettacolo che si presentava ai miei occhi sta mattina era davvero mozzafiato.

...ed un mare di nebbia sulla cittá.

Sono arrivata in ufficio e le mie gambe mi parevano due calippo, ma é un piacere poter iniziare bene la giornata!

New Artwork in Realfag bygget

The other day coming to work, I passed through one of the campus building called Realfag bygget, and saw a new artwork displayed. Its name is "En annen hverdag".



It is pretty big, it spans over two floors! And it is made my smaller tiles (I tried to take a picture when I got closer)
A few days later I went to read the explanation of the work.

It is the outcome of a project in the course AAR 4570/4890 in Visual Communication.
One of the goals of the course was that the students had to physically work on the presentation of an idea, a concept or similar and develop an independent mindset connected with the originating process (studentene skal "arbeide fysisk med presentasjon av en idé, et konsept eller lignende og utvikle en selvstendig tankegang i sammenheng med skapende prosesser").
The project needed to have some social and contemporary relevance.

The students focused on the intoxication abuse to bring attentiont to a problem the society does not speak so much about.

The picture measures 6 x 5.5 meter and consits of 12 wool blankets. Their intent is that these 12 blankets will be donated to provide a warm resource to some of Trondheim's abuser in these cold winter days.

Not just an artwork, but an object produced as the outcome of a learning process and as a resource for other. A multipurpose object.

Kayak: rolling training

This summer when we were in Stokkøya, we tried sea kayaking. The first few minutes were a bit anxious, but then we really enjoyed it :)

So at the beginning of the semester, when a friend asked me to join her, I thought of taking a sea-kayak course organized by one of the student groups at NTNU, the padling group.
Unfortunately I was not quick enough to sign up in time for that (21 persons signed up during the first 4 seconds!!)
However, my friend C. managed to get in and now she can borrow equipments for two persons ;-)

During November and December, the padling group organizes training in the swimming pool. It is much better to roll in water that is not freezing. One feels more comfortable in the swimming pool than in the fjord!

So, last week I was the second (after my friend C.) to sign up for kayak rolling training. We went there Wednesday evening. It was TOUGH! We first warmed up our arms and shoulders, then the hips, then it was time for flipping down and try to get out of the kayak. Then finally, it was the turn for the rolling training! Gosh, it is tough!

I felt pain on muscles I was not even aware of! My brother and L. were joking about it during the weekend in Belgium ;-)

Then this morning I noticed there are still places available for another training this week! But I am not even sure I want to do it again...

Anyway I have also find some videos, here for example. They make it look like it is so easy!
It is hard! Believe me!

The sky is on fire!

Trasparenza

In Norvegia, durante un periodo di un paio di settimane, si possono vedere gli introiti e le tasse pagate da tutti i contribuenti norvegesi. Ci sono vari punti di accesso. I particolare i siti di quotidiani e reti televisive mettono a disposizione questo servizio (skattelistene, dove "skatte" significa proprio "tasse"). Ad esempio adressa.no e tv2.
Se questa non é trasparenza!

Prima neve!

Ieri prima neve!
Era un paio di giorni che la temperatura era sotto lo zero, ieri peró si é alzata attorno allo zero ed é nevicato un po'.
Ieri sera la neve era gia svanita tutta, forse non si é mai nemmeno fermata. Ad ogni modo ieri sera c'era uno strato sottilissimo di ghiaccio, che puó giocare un sacco di brutti scherzi in bici ed a piedi!

Oggi peró é una bella giornata soleggiata, temperature ancora basse.

Ora solare: lancette avanti o indietro? trucco norvegese

La Norvegia appratiene allo stesso fuso orario dell'Italia e anche qui si rispettato ora solare ed ora legale. Quindi anche noi qui abbiamo dovuto cambiare ora nella notte tra sabato e domenica.

Domenica sera avevamo qualche amico a cena ed una di loro Bjørg (norvegese DOC) ci ha raccontato di un trucco che usa leiper ricordarsi se le lancette vanno tirate avanti o indietro.

Lei usa la matafora dei vasi in giardino. Mi spiego meglio.

In autunno, quando inizia a fare freddo, bisogna portare indietro i vasi, metterli al riparo dalla neve e dal freddo.
In primavera invece quando le giornate sono piú calde i vasi vengono messi fuori, portati in avanti.
Ecco, lo stesso vale per le lancette ;-)

Autunno in universitá

Come anticipato ecco alcune foto che ho scattato ieri in universitá.
É arrivato l'autunno a Trondheim e con il vento che c'é stato nel fine settimana, i colori autunnali sulle piante potrebbero durare per poco.
Quindi meglio cogliere l'occasione al volo visto che ora posso farlo ;-)
Giá, era tempo di cambiare il telefono e se non ci avesse pensato L. a comprarmene uno chissá quanto ci avrei messo io.

Troppo presto per Natale!

Ieri 29 Settembre ci trovavamo in un centro commerciale di Trondheim dove sono giá comparsi i primi addobbi natalizi ed un albero di Natale!!
E no, fine settembre é troppo presto!
Non vi pare?!

É appena iniziato l'autunno coi suoi bei colori. Godiamoci l'autunno prima!
Appena riesco metto due foto che ho scattato ieri ;-)

Sula e Brunost

Oggi pomeriggio partiamo per Sula. Isoletta di pescatori sulla costa norvegese. A circa 3-3.5 ore di macchina da Trondheim. Raggiungibile col traghetto da Frøya.

Un nostro caro amico é venuto a trovarci per alcuni giorni, e cosí andiamo lí sperando di pescare qualche bel merluzzo. Accidenti sembriamo sempre a pesca...

Partenza da Trondheim prevista per le 16, quindi dovró uscire prima dal lavoro e allora mi son portata la colazione in ufficio per essere qui il prima possibile ;-)
Ma in cosa consiste la mia colazione oggi? Cappuccino della macchinetta del dipartimento e panino con marmellata di lamponi e brunost.

Ma cos'é il brunost?! Brunost, o brown cheese é un formaggio caramellato, dall'aspetto marrone appunto. Io ne vado matta mangiato con la marmellata di lamponi. Il brunost viene utilizzato anche in salse per carni, ad esempi noi l'abbiamo assaggiato da amici accompagnato ad un arrosto di alce.
É un prodotto tipico norvegese, ma bisogna fare attenzione che a non tutti potrebbe piacere la prima volta. Io sono una di quelle, ma mi sono ricreduta ;-)
